Key takeaways
- Mistral’s official repository for mistralai/Voxtral-Mini-4B-Realtime-Arabic was created on October 8, 2026 and its current release commit is dated October 9. The checkpoint is downloadable without a gate.
- The registry reports 4,429,679,360 BF16 parameters. Mistral says the model accepts 16 kHz audio and emits text while audio arrives, with configurable transcription delay for captions and voice interfaces.
- Mistral reports 8.82% average Character Error Rate across seven Arabic benchmarks at 480 ms configured delay, versus 7.91% for its non-realtime Voxtral Transcribe Arabic comparator. AccessAllGPT did not reproduce either result.
- Local use is documented through vLLM’s /v1/realtime WebSocket route or Transformers 5.2.0 and later. Hugging Face showed no deployed inference provider, and the release does not announce a managed API price or service level.
- Teams should trial the pinned checkpoint on their own dialect, code-switching, noise, speaker and domain slices before using it in captions, call workflows or records where transcription errors have consequences.
The Arabic streaming checkpoint is downloadable now
Mistral published the official mistralai/Voxtral-Mini-4B-Realtime-Arabic repository on October 8, 2026; the current squashed release revision, a8b0156f, is dated October 9. The repository was public and ungated when AccessAllGPT reviewed it on October 12. It is classified for automatic speech recognition and is fine-tuned from Voxtral-Mini-4B-Realtime-2602.
This is a weight release for local inference, not a new hosted transcription API. The Hugging Face page explicitly showed no deployed inference provider, while Mistral’s card documents self-managed vLLM and Transformers paths. No managed endpoint identifier, per-minute price, quota, region matrix, retention policy or service-level commitment appears in the reviewed release material.
The scope is Arabic, dialects and code-switching
Mistral positions the model for Modern Standard Arabic and Arabic dialects, with 16 language codes in the card: MSA plus Moroccan, Libyan, Tunisian, Algerian, Hassaniya, Gulf, Najdi, Omani, Sanaani, Egyptian, Sudanese, Mesopotamian, South Levantine, North Levantine and Chadian Arabic. The company says training focused on Arabic code-switching and notes observed improvement when other languages appear, but labels that broader behavior an emerging capability.
The published limitation is direct: use the original Voxtral Mini 4B Realtime for other languages. Builders should not translate a long dialect list into uniform accuracy. A deployment set needs the actual countries, accents, age groups, microphones, acoustic conditions, specialist vocabulary and language switches expected in production.
The artifact contains 4.43 billion BF16 parameters
Hugging Face’s safetensors metadata reports 4,429,679,360 BF16 parameters, and the main model.safetensors file is approximately 8.86 GB. The pinned config identifies VoxtralRealtimeForConditionalGeneration with a 32-layer causal audio encoder and a 26-layer text decoder. It declares 128 mel bins, a default of six delay tokens, BF16 dtype and Transformers 5.2.0 metadata.
Those facts size and identify the artifact; they do not establish production memory, throughput or latency. Runtime memory includes activations, cache, audio features and serving overhead, and the configured delay is not the same as end-to-end user-perceived latency. Measure time from captured audio to stable transcript under the exact engine, hardware, concurrency and chunking policy you plan to ship.
Mistral reports 8.82% average CER at 480 milliseconds
At 480 ms configured transcription delay, Mistral reports an average Character Error Rate of 8.82% across seven Arabic benchmarks. Its chart places the offline Voxtral Transcribe Arabic comparator at 7.91%, a difference of 0.91 percentage points. The same chart reports 8.23% for MAI-Transcribe 2, 9.74% for ElevenLabs Scribe v2, 10.77% for Meta Muse Transcribe, 14.45% for Gemini 3.8 Flash and 14.34% for Cohere Transcribe Arabic.
These are vendor-reported comparisons, not independent AccessAllGPT results. Mistral says every evaluation used temperature 0.0 and its realtime model used 480 ms delay. Character Error Rate was calculated after Arabic-specific normalization covering spelling, clitics, loanwords and spoken numbers; the normalization code is included. Mistral also notes that Gemini safety filters blocked some FLEURS samples. Different normalization, missing samples, delay settings or product versions can change the ordering.
Lower delay trades against recognition quality in the vendor chart
Mistral’s delay chart reports average CER of 10.64% at 80 ms, 9.76% at 160 ms, 9.17% at 320 ms, 8.82% at 480 ms and 8.80% at 720 ms. The curve nearly flattens between 480 and 720 ms in that evaluation. It does not prove that 480 ms is optimal for every dialect, audio condition or product.
Configured model delay is only one component of a live experience. Capture buffering, resampling, network transport, inference scheduling, partial-transcript stabilization and application rendering all add time. Evaluate both accuracy and correction behavior: an early unstable transcript can be more disruptive than a slightly later stable one, especially for live captions or agent triggers.
vLLM and Transformers are the documented access paths
Mistral’s vLLM route installs vLLM with mistral-common audio dependencies, serves the exact repository ID, and streams audio over WebSocket to /v1/realtime. The Transformers route requires transformers 5.2.0 or later plus Accelerate and mistral-common audio dependencies, and the example loads VoxtralRealtimeForConditionalGeneration and AutoProcessor in BF16.
These are integration instructions, not a support or performance matrix. Pin the model revision, engine and mistral-common version rather than using unbounded upgrade commands in production. Verify that your chosen server preserves sample rate, chunk boundaries, timestamps, reconnect behavior and finalization semantics, and decide how it handles silence, overlapping speakers and partial failures.
Apache 2.0 is stated, but the repository has no separate license file
The model card states that the model is licensed under Apache 2.0 and links to the standard Apache license text. It also warns against use that infringes or misappropriates third-party rights. The reviewed repository tree did not include a separate LICENSE file, so teams should preserve the pinned card and linked terms with their artifact record rather than assuming a filename will carry the notice.
This article is not legal advice. A permissive model license does not resolve rights in source audio, speaker consent, biometric or employment rules, retention duties, output use or local recording law. Those controls belong in the deployment decision independently of model access.
What speech teams should do next
Trial the pinned checkpoint when Arabic streaming transcription is central and self-managed weights fit the operating model. Build a consented evaluation set stratified by dialect, code-switch pattern, channel, noise, overlap, named entities and domain vocabulary. Report raw and normalized CER or WER, deletion and hallucination rates, time to first partial, time to stable text, revision churn, peak memory and real-time factor at production concurrency.
Constrain use to assistive captions or reviewed drafts while evidence is incomplete. Wait for a managed route if the team cannot operate realtime inference safely. Reject automatic downstream action on unconfirmed partial transcripts, and require human review before a transcript becomes a legal, clinical, financial or disciplinary record. The release is a credible new artifact; its suitability remains a workload-specific result.

Limitations
AccessAllGPT reviewed public Mistral and Hugging Face materials but did not download the approximately 8.86 GB checkpoint; validate file hashes; load Voxtral Mini 4B Realtime Arabic; stream or transcribe audio; reproduce the seven-benchmark average, per-benchmark chart or delay curve; run the supplied normalization; verify dialect coverage; compare any model; measure CER, WER, latency, transcript stability, memory, throughput, energy or cost; inspect training data; evaluate privacy, bias, safety, memorization or rights; or perform a legal review. Model purpose, code-switch behavior, CER results and comparator scores are vendor-reported. Registry metadata and repository availability can change, and no managed API, price or service level was verified.
